Worry is so commonplace these days that it’s become an epidemic of fear-based stagnation. Did you every notice that 90% of the things you worry about never happen? I can’t tell you how many times I worried about a friend, my children or myself only to find that my worries were unfounded and never came to fruition.

One of the things about worry is that its effects are not desirable for a happy and satisfied life.  Worry can create stress, tension, aging, addictions, insomnia, and eat up your day before you know it.  A lot of times people don’t realize that worry is the base of these feelings and underneath that is fear—fear of losing control, fear of the unknown, fear of losing a friend, fear of my child being hurt and fear that I will lose something important to me.

 

So what do you do?  One of the things you can do is turn your worry into action and if you can’t, then you need to tell yourself to stop worrying and do something else.  If you find yourself unable to control your worrisome thoughts, its time to turn on a happy movie, read a good book, says a prayer to your higher power or pick up a tennis ball and hit a few rounds.  The whole point is to change your state.  Change your focus and soon you will find yourself happier and more productive.

Harvesting Happiness for Heroes is a pending 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation.
