H-Factor Where Is Your Heart

Free Will and Happiness by Lisa Cypers Kamen, What is Your Happiness

Free will is a concept everyone is familiar with.  But how often do we exercise our free will rather than allowing our beliefs, obligations and responsibilities to determine our choices instead?  Life can become very confusing as we make our decisions based not only upon our own needs but upon the needs of others.  We want to be happy, and we want others to be happy too.  If we choose what makes us happy, does that mean we are being selfish?  If we choose to do what makes other people happy, are we sacrificing our own needs to satisfy the demands of others?  Where does this complex maze of choices end? And is there some way we can simplify the process?

The answer is simple, although it may take a little getting used to.  You see, everyone is responsible for choosing their own happiness.  We all possess free will.   Our lives are the result of the choices we make, and happiness is one of the most powerful choices available to us.  We are sovereign beings, each and every one of us.  As we take full responsibility for ourselves, we become quite aware that we create our own happiness just as easily as we create our own misery.  Happiness is one choice we have among the many choices we face daily.  So, you might ask yourself next time you are faced with a choice, what is my H-Factor?  What is my happiness?  In this moment, do I value happiness enough to choose it?

Become cognizant of what serves you.  Does it serve you to choose anything but happiness?  If not, ask yourself why you would want to choose anything but happiness.  Happiness can be so simple, so very, very easy to choose.  If your answer is plagued with reasons that undermine your happiness, such as a desire for material possessions, status, accomplishment and such, understand you are missing the point.  The point is that you can be happy right here and right now if you choose to be.  You are free to choose whatever you wish to experience.  You simply create your happiness by the choices you make.
