Happiness and the Armed Forces by Lisa Cypers Kamen of What is Your Happiness
Lisa Cypers Kamen Harvesting Happiness

Lisa Cypers Kamen Harvesting Happiness

By Lisa Cypers Kamen, Harvesting Happiness

Got your attention, didn’t I?  Happiness and Marines? Happiness and Soldiers?  When was the last time you saw a man or woman in uniform.  Probably at the airport, the grocery store or the bank.  Given our current global conflict situation, chances are you will spot one of our service men and women in uniform.

Many of us not used to the Military might stare or wonder, but I’m here today to give you the opportunity to increase our global level of happiness, to support the men and women in our troops and to make a difference.

The next time you see one of our armed forces members, a simple “Thank you for your service,” can make all the difference in their day.  When they go back to their family or their barracks I have seen with my own eyes the difference in that small bit of honoring.  The stand a little taller, their eyes are a little brighter and best of all they share that feeling with their buddies.  And then their Military buddies share that feeling with their friends and family and we create a wave of happiness that washes through our troops.

They are doing their part by serving our country.  We can do our part by showing them our respect, honor and support.  So the next time you see a Soldier or a Marine, tell them thank you.  We all need to do our part in supporting each other because freedom doesn’t come free. And remember, happiness and supporting those who serve does not have a political affiliation or price.

Shimmy and Shake up your Routines by Lisa Cypers Kamen and What is Your Happiness

By Lisa Cypers Kamen, Harvesting Happiness

Recently I took a Zumba class after repeated requests from one of my friends. After many hours in the gym with my personally designed fitness routine to reduce my stress and take care of my body I was delighted with the class.  Looking around the room I saw men and women of every shape, size, color, age and fitness level. Most importantly, they all had one thing in common.  They were all smiling. It was joyful. It was infectious.  I found myself smiling at people I had never met as we shimmied to the dance music.

I realized then that routines are comforting and familiar.  After all, they are routine!  But what routine can do is blind us to the opportunities to the beautiful variety available in life. Doing the same thing over and over can dull your senses, make you deaf, blind and dumb to the sensations around us.  Taking that class reminded me that climbing on the spin bike, plugging into my same playlist and riding my 15 miles in 45 minutes though comforting was limiting my joy.

I forgot how much fun it was to sometimes shake up my routine. Take a different way to your child’s school  Stop at a different Starbucks.  Take a different class at your gym and shimmy and shake up your routine.  You might be surprised and make a new friend, enjoy a new activity or find a new flavored coffee.  It’s the little things in life that bring us joy.  So shimmy and shake up your routine today!

Keeping it Simple by Lisa Cypers Kamen and What is Your Happiness

Did you ever notice that life could start feeling like a battle for your time, affection, energy and physical being.  My friends want me to do this. My work demands me to be here.  My kids need me there. My mother wants me to call. My sister is mad because I forgot her birthday.  Yet you are only one person, and many days we need to be three of four people.

You become a soldier in your own war only the battleground is your life and your sanity.  If you don’t want to fight this kind of war, you need to simplify your life. This is not as easy as it sounds. But you can begin each morning by talking to yourself before you get swept down the rushing river of you day to identify what one thing can you do to change about your life that will make your life easier.  Can you stop long enough to think about what you need and what would make you happy?  That’s right, in the frantic chaos of life you matter.

I am here today to put you back into the equation of your life. If you don’t, you will end up feeling exhausted, stretched, overburdened and resentful. No one expects you to be superwoman or superman, and no one ever died because you forgot to send a thank you note.  This is not permission to be selfish, but it is permission to take care of yourself and a lot of times that means getting real, keeping it simple and saying no when you can’t.

Deserving the Good in Life by Lisa Cypers Kamen and What is Your Happiness

It’s easy to say that we are love, that we are all loved in one-way or another, or altogether. Sometimes we can feel as though we are less than other people or that we are somehow less deserving of the good in life than others.  These thoughts are usually based in fear, insecurity and a lapse in personal confidence.  The fact is, everyone feels this way sometimes.  It’s important to recognize that this is a just a thought accompanied by feelings and that this will pass.

It will pass faster if you change your thinking to repeating an affirmation in your mind that you deserver the good things in life just as much as anyone else because you are worth of love, support, care and good things.  When you get away from your limiting thoughts that encourage you to feel unworthy, you can open your heart, mind, spirit and life to receiving the blessings that are due to you and that you can share with others.   By letting yourself accept the good things in life, you allow more of them to come into your life.

You are entitled to flourish and thrive. You do not have to feel guilty for the blessings in your life.  It’s okay to give yourself over to the good in life and say, “I deserve this and I am worthy of the goodness in my life.”
