Lisa Cypers Kamen Harvesting Happiness

 By Lisa Cypers Kamen, Harvesting Happiness

Negative emotions such as worry, anger, fear, and resentment are called negative emotions because they lead to thoughts that drain away our time, energy and forward direction.  Can you remember a time when you were feeling good, working on something or perhaps enjoying time with friends and then a worry or resentful feeling washed over you and lead to some negative thoughts? Pretty soon you find yourself feeling lousy, not wanting to participate and you might sit down and feel really terrible not wanting to do much of anything except feel bad.

That’s how negative emotions and thoughts derail us on the happy journey of life.  Now let’s look at the reverse.  Think about a time where you feel joy, elation, hope, and excitement.  Do you feel the power?   You can actually feel your power levels rise and you start moving – talking, dancing, creating and living.  So next time you find yourself down in the dumps, worrying, feeling angry, fearful or having resentments change your thoughts to something brighter and feel those negative emotions fall away.   In a positive state you can then do something about the situation that is related to those negative emotions and solve the problem.

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? HAPPINESS AND NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

As a new year approaches, it is natural to think of goals or resolutions. At the end of each year, it is natural to evaluate the level of happiness experienced in the previous year and set goals for the next one.  In making resolutions, people often decide to concentrate on negative traits: “I will quit smoking.”

Instead of trying to work on every good quality at one time, decide to have one focus for each month of the year. A list of ideas is provided below:

  1. tend and befriend others;
  2. master a new skill;
  3. be aware of and thankful for good things;
  4. organize a group activity and make it happen;
  5. make careful choices that will not be regretted later;
  6. forgive all who have wronged you;

7.      finish what you start;

8.     enjoy laughter – do something that will bring smiles to others; and

9.     notice and appreciate beauty and excellence.

Be sure to choose activities that will help you have a positive new year.

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? HAPPINESS AND SHOPPING BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

No doubt you’ve thought about your shopping for the holidays. You may have even begun getting gifts for friends and family already. Some people love to shop, while others dread it. It all depends on your attitude.

If you are feeling good and want to have a good time, then you are likely to enjoy your shopping trip. On the other hand, if you are not feeling well, are stressed and in a bad mood, then the opposite is likely true.

Looking ahead to the holidays, it has been said many times that it is the most wonderful time of the year. It can be – it all goes back to asking yourself. ‘How am I going to look at this shopping trip? Am I going to approach it positively or negatively?’

Whether you are shopping with friends or alone, take time to enjoy the experience. Joy from shopping can come from simple enjoyment, not whether you bought something. Not everyone feels this way, but you will be happier if you try to approach shopping this way.

Is shopping and the money you spend worth going into debt? Consider creating, donating on behalf of a loved one or baking a gift from the heart.

What about the crowds at the mall? What about the long lines at the store? These are times that can be stressful for people, leading some to avoid malls altogether when it comes to holiday shopping. Some people even feel sick thinking about it. The next time you are anxious about shopping, no matter what time of year, just take a moment for yourself. Remember that it can be a positive experience.

Happy shopping!
