By Lisa Cypers Kamen, Harvesting Happiness
Did you ever notice that life could start feeling like a battle for your time, affection, energy and physical being. My friends want me to do this. My work demands me to be here. My kids need me there. My mother wants me to call. My sister is mad because I forgot her birthday. Yet you are only one person, and many days we need to be three of four people.
You become a soldier in your own war only the battleground is your life and your sanity. If you don’t want to fight this kind of war, you need to simplify your life. This is not as easy as it sounds. But you can begin each morning by talking to yourself before you get swept down the rushing river of you day to identify what one thing can you do to change about your life that will make your life easier. Can you stop long enough to think about what you need and what would make you happy? That’s right, in the frantic chaos of life you matter.
I am here today to put you back into the equation of your life. If you don’t, you will end up feeling exhausted, stretched, overburdened and resentful. No one expects you to be superwoman or superman, and no one ever died because you forgot to send a thank you note. This is not permission to be selfish, but it is permission to take care of yourself and a lot of times that means getting real, keeping it simple and saying no when you can’t.
