WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? TIPS FOR FINDING HAPPINESS BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

Remember that everyone defines happiness differently so what makes you happy may not make another person happy With that said, here are just a few tips for finding happiness in your life:

  • Experiment to find out what makes you happy. See what you hobbies and/or activities bring you the most happiness and do those things as often as you can.
  • Make a gratitude journal or jar and try to write down ten things each day that you are thankful for. It might be your health, your family or something else, but this helps you to count your blessings and puts the focus on the positive things in your life.
  • Think in terms of solutions instead of problems. If something seems too hard, ask yourself, “What’s the solution?” You’ll be much happier if you can adjust your thinking.
  • Spend time with your friends and family. You can give them a quick call, visit with them for a short time, or make a day of connecting with the people you care about- it’s up to you!
  • Acceptance. This means accepting ourselves as we are as well as accepting others and the things that happen in life as they are.
  • Slow down in your day-to-day tasks and take the time to enjoy every moment. We are so rushed in our daily lives with too many things that we don’t take the time to enjoy them. Try to have fewer things to do in your day and enjoy the everyday tasks such as eating or sitting.

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? HAPPY DURING HOLIDAYS BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

You are feeling stressed and it seems like you don’t have enough time to get everything done during this holiday season. You still have presents to get and you wonder if you will have enough money to buy all the presents for your family and friends. Before the stress overwhelms you, stop for a minute and take a deep breath.

It’s time to focus on what’s important during this time of year. It isn’t the things we have that matters the most, it is the people we have in our lives. Take the time during this holiday season to spend time with your family and friends and show appreciation to those people who matter in your life.

Another way to take the focus off of things and put it toward the people in our lives is to not focus on physical gifts that we exchange but on the quality time we spend with one another by playing games or singing songs. You will have fun and at the same time you will be saving money. You could spend time as a family baking your favorite cookies and sharing stories of past holidays while doing so, too.

Remember too that you can do something as simple as sharing a smile with someone – you might try doing that with the cashier at the department store when you are in a long line buying a present this holiday season. Smiles cost nothing and can brighten someone else’s day!

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? STAYING HAPPY BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

One way that we can stay happy in life is by showing gratitude for what we have and experience. Here are some things to think about as you go about your day:

1. Accept things as they are. No matter how much the situation has turned out differently to your expectations, it is the way it is. You don’t know how much worse off you could have been had things gone differently.

2. Focus on what is right in your life rather than what’s wrong. Try to put positive thoughts in your life and get rid of the negative. Count your blessings and be thankful for what you have, not what you don’t have.

3. Say “thank you” as often as possible to all the people who make your life what it is. A smile and a simple thank you will do. Show appreciation to the cashier the next time you get groceries or take the time to show appreciation for the cleaning staff at your workplace. It can be an easy thing if you look for the opportunities to do so. If you can find out the name of your postman and a little bit about his life, you’ll be surprised at what such a simple act of thanks will do for their day.

4. Smile. It doesn’t cost you anything and it will bring joy to someone else’s day.

You can find more tips in our blog “Ways To Show Gratitude”. Remember it all starts with you!

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS? WAYS TO SHOW GRATITUDE BY LISA CYPERS KAMEN

By Lisa Cypers Kamen

Here are just a few ways to show gratitude in life:

1. List the things in your life you are grateful for and those things you take for granted, such as your health, home, family, friends, colleagues, car, and so on. Add all the things that you could not survive without, such as sunlight, air, water and food.

See how many things you can come up with. Keep this list with you, and refer to it anytime you get upset. See how long you remain upset!

2. Do something for someone for no reason other than simply wanting to do it. Have no attachment to the outcome. Pay for someone’s coffee at work, or compliment someone you don’t know very well.

3. Send a card of appreciation to someone whom you have not been in touch with for a while. You could take this even further by sending cards to five people letting them know how much they mean in your life.

4. Send a thank you note to someone who has done something for you, no matter how small it may seem to be.

5. Take time to feel awe and wonder at the world. Take the time to “stop and smell the roses.” Take in the sunset in the morning when you wake up or take a minute to appreciate being alive…it doesn’t have to take very long.
